How to Reset WordPress Password from Host Accounts

I have been faced with the challenge of how i can retrieve my wordpress password as to regarding my over tighting of password with random numbers, alphabets and huge symbols recently. So i did like to share my experience as well as how i solved the issued easily. This password strengths of a thing has put some of us in problems where we find it hard to remember our wordpress passwords and as such we forget both our username, passord or even the email used (this happens to niggas with too many things on their brains to settle, lol).

You can still retrieve or reset your WordPress password from your Hosting account using various means like through your host cPanel, Softaculous and even from database directly.

This article is intended for persons who still have their Hosting accounts login details. If you lost both your hosting and wordpress login details, you must first contact your Host support team for help on retrieving your account before proceeding this tutorial.

How to Reset WordPress Password

The only way to easily reset your wordpress login details without the help of your hosting accounts, you will need to have your email linked with your website active.

If you have your WordPress email and you remember your username, then use the Normal wordpress means of reseting a password from the login section through:

  1. Go to your WordPress login screen at http://your-site-url.com/wp-login.php. or simply visit https:///your-site-url/admin
  2. Under the login form, click Lost your password.
  3. Enter the username or email address of the account you’re trying to log into.
  4. Click Get New Password to have the reset password email sent to that username’s email.

Note: Replace your-site-url.com with your actual WordPress installation location. This may be your domain, domain + a folder location, or a temporary URL.

If you forget your WordPress password, there are 3 ways to reset it through your hosting account panel. You can reset using one of the following:

Softaculous Password Reset

This method is only available for you if you used Softaculous to install WordPress for your website/blog. This is how to go about resetting a wordpress blog installed with Softaculous.

  1. Log into cPanel.
  2. Scroll down to the Software section and click on the Softaculous Apps Installer.
  3. On the main page of Softaculous, click on Installations or, in the upper right-hand corner, click on the Box icon within the navigation bar to show the list of Scripts Installations.
  4. Under Link, find the domain for which you need to reset the password.
  5. On the right-hand side of the row, click the Pencil icon to load the Installation Details.
  6. Go to the Admin Account section on the Installation Details page.
  7. Enter the Admin Username for which you want to change the password.
  8. Enter the new Admin Password.
  9.  Scroll down to the bottom of the page, and click on Save Installation Details.   

QuickInstall Password Reset

You can make fast resetting of your wordpress passwords using the QuickInstall method.

  1. Log into cPanel.
  2. Under Software/Services, click on QuickInstall.
  3. At the top of the page, click My Installs.
  4. Locate the installation you wish to modify.
  5. Click Reset Password.
  6. Select the username you wish to change the password for from the drop-down box, then enter a new password.
  7. Click the Reset Password button to change the password for the selected user.

Note: You must have used the QuickInstall during your installation process before you can use this method to reset your wordpress password

Manual Password Reset

The reseting of your WordPress password using the manual password reset method is the simplest but yet the most dangerious of them all. Care needs to be taking here as to prevent exposing your entire website to risk.

To reset your WordPress password using Manua Password Reset method from Database of phpMyAdmin:

  1. Log into cPanel.
  2. Under Databases, click phpMyAdmin.
  3. Click on the WordPress database from the left panel list.
  4. Click wp_users from the left panel list.
  5. Under user_login, you will see the list of registered users. Under the user whose password you wish to reset, click edit.
  6. Under the user_pass column, clear the value on the far right and replace it with what you would like the password to be.
  7. In the Function drop-down menu, select MD5.
  8. At the bottom of the page, click GO.

Comments and Reviews

The best method to safely reset a wordpress login details(like passwords and or usernames or even emails) from your hosting side is through the direct database editting. Be always careful when using this field and always make use of MD5 security when you make edits to your user_pass(the password field) on the myphpAdmin database.
